August 2026Getaway Sunglasses Case

August is all about heat and sunshine, with bright, warm days that make sunglasses an everyday essential.

I have a vacation to Seattle this year, and I want to make a sunglasses case to take with me. We'll create something protective, practical, and easy to carry while exploring the city.

The community chose a hidden magnet for the sunglasses-case closure. It keeps the envelope flap secure while preserving the case's clean shape.

4 of 9Cut

With the fabrics selected, I cut the chipboard, cardstock, fabric, and fusible interfacing pieces for the sunglasses case. Keeping each group organized and labeled makes the hinged assembly easier to build in the next steps.

5 of 9Embroidery

The community chose Bubbles for the patterned fabric, so the same bubble pattern returns on the lining as embroidery. It creates a subtle connection between the outside and inside, with a small surprise revealed when the case is opened.

6 of 9Build

The structure of the sunglasses case is built from hinged chipboard panels, allowing the case to fold into shape while still opening smoothly. The hinge gaps are what give the rigid panels their movement and create the finished three-dimensional form.

With the main structure built, the next step is covering the hinges and adding the sides. The hinge fabric finishes the moving joints, while the triangular side panels connect the front and back of the case and create its final shape.

8 of 9Assemble

With the exterior complete, I’m installing the prepared lining pieces and bringing the case into its finished form. The embroidered pink lining adds a bright contrast inside, while careful alignment keeps the hinged case neat as it opens and closes.
